Ashuapmushuan canoe – 5 to 7 days
Our canoe-camping expedition on the Ashuapmushuan River is designed for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers looking to get away from everyday life and explore the wilderness of the Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean region.
What to expect
The Ashuapmushuan is an intermediate river. We offer the possibility of doing the section above Chaudières Falls in 5 days or the entire descent in 7 days. The river alternates between calm water sections and rapids of various classes ranging from RI to RIII. There are several portages, including the 1.5 km Chaudière Falls portage. This wild 160 km-long river is a tributary of Lac Saint-Jean and offers incredible scenery and unusual wildlife encounters.
You have questions or simply need advice to discover the wonders of the fjord, our adventure experts are there to support you.

Itinerary
Day 1: Meeting and transport to departure point
After breakfast (not included), we meet for departure. Transfer to the Ashuampushuan River on the road to Lac-Saint-Jean. Arrive at departure point in late afternoon, set up camp and enjoy dinner. Beforehand, your guide will prepare you for the next few days by giving you a few basic canoeing notions.
Days 2 to 4 or 6: Enjoy the river
The Ashuapmushuan is the only tributary of Lac Saint-Jean that is not harnessed (no dams), and as it flows through the wildlife reserve that bears its name, it is a virtually untouched natural environment, rich in flora and fauna. The territory is covered to the north by a forest of black spruce and jack pine, which gradually converts to a hardwood fir forest to the south. Canoeable all summer long, the Ashuapmushuan River is appreciated for its rapids of moderate difficulty, characterized by strong waves. The grandiose Chaudière Falls alone are worth the trip.
We offer shipment in 5 or 7 days, depending on the point of exit.
Day 7: Back in town
End of the descent and transfer by minibus to Chicoutimi. End of program with Saguenay aventures.
